Homemade Solution for a Sticky Mess

There are many products on the market for taking on things that are stick, gooey, or otherwise hard to touch when it comes to house cleaning, and several of them work incredibly well.

You can make one yourself that works just as well, though; is more natural, and costs significantly less than any product you will buy in a store. Having some of this around makes cleaning sticky messes convenient! Here’s how to make it work for you:

Step #1: Combine 1 part vegetable oil with 2 parts baking soda. This formula provides the right amount of oil for loosening the sticky factor while also allowing for a certain amount of abrasiveness to help pry those goopy messes loose.

Step #2: Create a paste. In order to work with it well and be able to completely scrub a mess clean, you will want to use a paste. It remains on the stuck on area longer and allows you to work more with it.

Step #3: Scrub away! Apply the paste to the sticky mess and start working it in with your fingers, a paper towel, or even an old toothbrush. This should work pretty effectively at loosening up what remains of tacky residue.

Step #4 Wash. Before you’re finished, wash the paste off (you don’t want to leave vegetable oil just hanging out on your clean surfaces!). It’s also a good idea to dry it completely.

When you’re done, the sticky mess should be gone and the surface clean. This works exceptionally well with things like stickers, labels, gum, and candle wax, so if you’ve been struggling to get something sticky cleaned up, try this!
