Getting Rid of That Smell in the Fridge

Foul odors in the fridge could really be annoying and unhealthy at the same time; the smell in the fridge can affect the taste and quality of food that is stored in it.

Getting that smell out of my fridge is not really rocket science, there are simple techniques and daily household items that could be used in order to eliminate this problem.

Steps to remove the smell out of the fridge:

There are a number of food items that can cause bad odors, sometimes it could be caused by rotten meat, it could also be caused by exotic food products that have been left behind for a long time, most of the time it could be the residue of rotten food that has been left behind for more than 2 weeks.

There are a lot of expensive products being sold in the market that promises to get rid of the unwanted odors; however there are common household items that could be used to remove the unwanted odors.

1. Baking soda mixed with vinegar- this mixture is considered to be one of the best ways to get rid of foul odor in the fridge and anywhere that needs to smell fresh and clean.

Baking soda mixed with warm water and vinegar could be spread all over a baking sheet and placed in the refrigerator for 24 hours or more.

The door of the fridge must be kept closed until the smell goes away, additional baking soda could be added for a faster effect.

The baking sheet will absorb the odors, new baking sheets could be placed inside to ensure that the fridge smells good at all times.

2. Plain oats- Some people would be surprised to know that common kitchen ingredients like oats can also serve as an odor absorber, a bowl of oats can also be placed inside the fridge, and it will suck in the bad smells, the oats could be placed for 2 days and then removed.

3. Activated charcoal- charcoal could be used to absorb bad odour inside the fridge, however people have to avoid using briquettes with flammable additives since it is poisonous around food.

4. Lemon- natural ingredients such as lemon could also be used to remove the odour without hassle, a cotton ball could be dipped in lemon juice and then placed inside the fridge for several hours until the bad smell is gone. 

There is no need to spend thousands of dollars on chemical based products, natural products like baking soda can do the job and would also prove to be safer.
