Making Changes in Your Décor

Are you ready for a new look in your dining room or living room? There are many ways to change the style, and you can choose to go bigger or smaller depending on the time and money you have to invest.

Of course, the first thing to take care of in any room is house cleaning. Getting clutter out of a room can make a huge difference! Once that’s done, try one (or all!) of these tips:

Change the Wall Color. Painting is the one thing you can do that will make the biggest difference in any space. It can also be time consuming, though; so only choose painting if you have the time and energy to put into it.

Try something completely different with your wall color. Go lighter or darker, switch out a neutral for a bolder color, or try a pattern or stencil. The change will be instant.

Add Architecture. Add new features to your space through architectural pieces. These don’t have to be big, but they certainly can be. One of the most popular and easier features to add is molding, but the board and batten you see on the bottom half of the room pictured above is extremely effective (and a little more work!).

Change Out Fabrics & Accessories. Don’t have time to paint the wall but really want to bring in some more color? Fabrics and accessories will do that for you! Get a new curtain in a brighter, bolder color, or opt for a pattern sheer that filters light into the room. Change your pillows, throws, or seat cushions out for something new, or change your area rug.

Don’t forget to switch out your accessories to go with your new colors! These don’t have to be expensive, either. Colored glass bottles or vases, unique candleholders, or photographs in colored frames can add a great effect for not much money or work.
