Decorating Your Entryway

Is your entryway looking a little bland? It can be a great place to show off some of your style, especially since anyone who enters your home will see this area first. One of the best ways to do this is with an entryway table.

You’ll often find these in slim, medium-high versions, but there are a wide variety, and how you decorate them can tell your guests about what to expect from your style. Here are some suggestions to help you get started:

Symmetry vs. Asymmetry. Neither is wrong, it’s really a preference. Symmetry tends to give a more classic, clean impression; asymmetry suggests eclectic, artistic influences.

When it comes to symmetry, one of the things to include is variety in heights, widths, and colors. Because both sides are equal, you want those pieces to make a strong statement. For instance, use the same tall candle on both sides, balanced by the same short vase on both sides of the table.

Asymmetry runs the risk of being too hodge-podge—as you set up your table, step back and look at how it’s coming together. Does it look polished and thoughtful?

Bold Colors & Patterns. This is a great place to inject some of your bolder style. If you tend to be vibrant in your color choices carry that into the entryway by using some of your bright colors. For instance, if pink and green make an appearance throughout your house, use touches of them on the table, as well.

You can find bold patterns on anything, as well; from vases and frames to entire tables and furniture. This can be a great way to get attention in your entryway and make an impression.

Add Accents. Once you have your table ready, add accents throughout your entryway to complement the space. Area rugs and wall hangings are especially good accompaniments, but you can also add baskets, hooks, or other containers that help family members keep track of and store things as they move in and out of the house.
